The first thing to remember when looking for discount car insurance is that the less likely your car is to be damaged or stolen, the less the insurance premium will be. That is why it is important to keep cars in a garage if possible, helping to ensure maximum security.
This not only gives better protection against thieves, but also protects the car against the elements.
Often, additional car insurance discounts are available by minimising non-essential driving. The fewer miles driven, the less exposure your car has to potential accidents. Although it may be difficult to reduce the usage of your car, cutting out some of those unnecessary journeys can often save money on your insurance premium.
If cutting down the distance driven is tough, then choose a practical and economical car. Cars with smaller engines and good safety records are generally in lower insurance groups. A low insurance group will ensure that you are getting both a practical car and often a sizeable car insurance discounts.
One of the most effective ways to reduce car insurance premiums is to build up a no claims discount. Generally, the longer the period without a claim the cheaper the premium will become. This is because insurance companies associate less of a risk to those who have claimed less recently. Not claiming on your car insurance will let you build up a No Claims Discount which can reduce your car insurance premium.
All the above methods can help discount car insurance premiums, but perhaps the most effective technique for reducing your insurance is to make sure you choose the right company.

Automobile insurance is an increasing expense for almost all Americans.
We can’t afford to have it, and we certainly can’t afford to not have it. When researching car insurance companies and comparing policies, it is a good idea to follow these easy guidelines to get the most coverage for your insurance dollars.
Get discount car insurance quotes from as many carriers as you can. Automobile insurance rates may vary drastically depending on the model of your car and the type of coverage you need. Consider as high a deductible as you can reasonably afford, since higher deductibles translate into lower insurance premiums. Review quotes and policies carefully to make sure you are only paying for coverage you really need. If you have homeowner insurance, ask your agent if you are covered already for certain items you might be charged again for on your auto policy.
After you have gotten quotes from different car insurance carriers, it is usually a good idea to create a spreadsheet to help you avoid comparing apples to oranges. Set up a scenario with car repairs and medical expense to best compare the coverage differences under real-life situations.
Once you have chosen the two least expensive automobile insurance policies for the coverage you need, contact a reputable body shop in your area for a referral. Automobile body shops deal with insurance companies every day, and you want to make sure the company you send your premiums to each month will be responsive and fair if you have to make an insurance claim. The body shop probably has a good insider opinion on how the insurance company operates, how long it takes to get an adjuster to view the damaged vehicle, how long it takes to get paid on a claim, how fair the estimate was, were used parts requested versus brand new parts and so on.
Trust me, a 10 minute talk with a reputable body shop manager can reveal a lot of great information about an insurance company and how they tend to handle their claims. A few dollars difference in premium dollars to get coverage from a company that handles their claims properly may save you a world of hassle in the event of an automobile accident.
Student Auto Insurance
Student auto insurance is very essential for young motorists and drivers. Uninsured driving could put a question mark on your future and lifelong driving and credit ratings. It could also land you in jail if you have an accident and are without any student auto insurance. You can avail different discounts and other concessions on your insurance premium by adhering to simple restrictions.
What are the available premium rates?
Premium rates of student auto insurance are normally high. There are various determinants like your age, driving record, your car make like sports car, etc. DUI-Driving under influence of alcohol or drugs or DWI-Driving while intoxicated receives higher ratings on your premium. Besides, new age and trendy cars are mostly of fiberglass and hence insurance companies ask for higher premiums to insure such cars. Additionally, you pay premiums according to your place of residence. Proximity to bigger and prominent cities attracts higher premiums. Again premium rates go north if you are male under the age of twenty-five as accident rates for people in this category are the maximum. Normal annual insurance rates for students range from $3,600 to $13,800.
Can I lower my insurance premiums?
Yes, you can lower your student auto insurance premiums through simple measures. The best option is to maintain good driving records. Discounts also depend on your academic grades. Maintain good levels in your college grades and present a copy of your mark sheet to insurance company to receive substantial discounts. If you live close to your campus and drive less, you can opt for low-mileage discount. Further discounts are available for participating in Driver’s Training Programs, community defensive driving classes, etc. It is best to receive coverage through your parent’s auto insurance as secondary driver.
If you install different alarm and antitheft devices, automatic seat belts, air bags, etc. in your car, you can ask for substantial discounts on your student auto insurance. A higher deductible lowers premium rates. Besides, you need to ensure that there are no gaps in your insurance coverage. You should buy your new policy before you are out of your parent’s policy coverage. Drive old cars instead of new makes as you then pay lower premiums. Most important of all is to drive confidently and steadily to avoid accidents and develop a good driving record, which can hold you in good stead in the future.
Discount Car Insurance: Service Versus Price
Faced with today's high car insurance rates, savvy drivers look for every possible way to reduce their insurance premium. So it only makes sense to stay informed about the many ways to obtain discount car insurance.
Here are some suggestions for saving money when shopping for discount car insurance:
- The fastest and most convenient way is to shop online for an auto insurance quote from competing companies. This will enable you to compare rates and policies from multiple car insurers. You'll discover that different companies will often quote different rates for the same coverage.
- Raise the deductible on your discount auto insurance. The larger the deductible, the lower your insurance premium will be for that coverage. In turn, your insurer benefits by not having to pay out benefits on relatively small claims.
- Keep a clean driving record. Your reward for driving safely and defensively will be a lower insurance rate.
- Keep a clean credit record, too. Monitor your credit report, pay your bills on time, and don't exceed your credit limits. Those with higher scores on their credit report typically get lower premiums.
- Have safety and anti-theft devices installed.
Those are just a few of the most common ways to qualify for discount auto insurance. Other discounts may be available, so be sure to shop around and look to your agent or potential agent for additional information.
Remember: Service Quality Varies
As you probably know, not all discount auto insurance companies offer the same quality of service to their policyholders. Some have a reputation for being highly responsive and cooperative about claims processing, while others are notorious for dragging their feet and delaying payments as long as possible.
A number of websites identify companies that are rated highest in service satisfaction, according to their customer surveys. Be sure to review companies carefully before signing on the dotted line for discount auto insurance.
If you're thinking that a higher insurance premium brings with it a higher quality of service from your insurer, you're going to discover that this is not always the case. Your insurer offers all its customers the same level of consideration. So why pay more? Be a smart shopper and get every discount you can on your car insurance.
When Looking for Discount Auto Insurance, Think About Deductibles
Car insurance rates being what they are, is discount auto insurance a realistic possibility in today's world? Indeed it is.
Let NetQuote help you find the low cost auto insurance quotes for you right in your area.
Higher Deductible, Lower Cost
Smart drivers consider every angle for reducing their car insurance premiums. We'll start with one angle, the deductible, which is the amount of money that you pay before the insurance company's own coverage plan begins. For many people, raising the deductible on their policy increases their opportunity to get a discount auto insurance rate. The larger the deductible, the lower the insurance premium is for that coverage. The insurer benefits by not having to pay out benefits on relatively small claims.
For example, you might be able to cut your annual premium on your discount auto insurance by 10% or more if you increase a deductible from, say, $250 to $500. Remember that if you are in accident and your car sustains damage, you will have pay up to $500 towards the cost of repairs. If the repair cost is more than $500, your insurance company pays the remaining amount.
Discount Auto Insurance Involves Tradeoffs
The amount of a deductible is almost always proportional to the amount of the insurance premium charged by the insurers. The breakdown is fairly simple: the lower the deductible, the higher the premium. And on the flipside, most low premium rates come with a higher deductible.
Deductibles can be something of a balancing act. A single costly accident or medical procedure could incur a very high deductible payment, but a lifetime of good driving and few automotive claims could make higher premiums a relative waste of money.

When shopping for discount auto insurance, be sure to ask specific questions about the deductible and other obligations left to the policyholder. An exceptionally low insurance premium rate may go hand in hand with an equally exceptionally high deductible amount. Try to find a balance between affordable premiums and a fair deductible when buying auto insurance.
Low Cost Auto Insurance: Tips to Reduce Your Car Insurance Costs
If you are part of the average American family, chances are that the cost of car insurance is becoming more and more of an issue for you. Well, likewise, there are a growing number of people looking for low cost auto insurance. However, certain questions remain regarding the worth of the low cost auto insurance policy that you are buying.
After all, low cost auto insurance is wonderful when paying the bill, but a mistake while choosing the car insurance company could land you in a nightmare. So when it comes to car insurance, don't just take the cheapest quote you get. You need to find out a little about the insurance company that is offering the low cost auto insurance - that's step 1.
Step 2 is to find ways that may help reduce your car insurance costs without compromising on the coverage. So here are our tips:
- Look at your deductible amount, because this is the amount to which the cost of your policy is directly related. In short, a higher deductible amount means a cheaper insurance policy. So if you have a good driving record and are prepared to pay a higher amount in the event of a claim you can save money by increasing your deductible.
- Certain types of cars cost more to insure. Keep in mind that certain types of cars - such as sports cars and the more unusual and expensive models -- cost more to insure. So it is wisest to find out which makes and models these are before you buy car insurance.
- Be safe. This may sound obvious, but drive carefully. After all, your driving record is likely to significantly impact your car insurance risk profile. So if you've had multiple accidents or bookings in the recent past, chances are you won't get low cost auto insurance. Moreover, safe drivers can be eligible for high discounts.
- Install safety and anti theft devices in your car. Once again, these affect your risk profile. If your car is less at risk of theft it should be cheaper to insure, so make sure your car insurance company knows about the devices you install.
- Review policy carefully. When it comes to renewing your car insurance, review the terms instead of blindly paying. You may find that certain coverage areas overlap with those in any other insurance policy that you may have bought, so these can be eliminated from your car insurance, thereby reducing the cost.
- Shop around. Once again at renewal time, browse the Net to see if you can find a good discount car insurance broker who can provide you with quotes from a wide range of companies. Remember that car insurance rates can vary as much as 300% between companies for the same coverage areas. You can thus save hundreds of dollars a year by comparing rates. Also, your current car insurance company may have lower rates for new customers that you may be able to negotiate for yourself as a valued customer.
- Bundle up. Many insurers offer discounts for multiple policies. In other words, if you insure your house with a certain company and approach them for car insurance as well, you may well find yourself facing a large discount offer.
- Reduce drive time. Drivers who average 40 miles or less a day qualify for low mileage discounts with most car insurance companies. If you don't fall in this bracket, consider carpooling a couple of days a week to reduce your car's mileage. Also, flying or taking a train instead of driving can help you further reduce the miles.
One final myth-buster: people always say car insurance is hugely expensive, but you have a chance to rectify that if you are smart enough to explore all the low cost auto insurance options. So get cracking today!
